Dorathy Ubiam, CDMP

Data Governance & Data Management professional

Data Governance and Data Management leader with experience improving data quality, defining standards, strengthening documentation, and supporting governance programs across healthcare and education. I turn messy data into trusted business assets, because “we think the spreadsheet is right” is not a data strategy.

At Tech Thrivers, I support enterprise data governance using DAMA principles and practical governance practices. I have developed business glossaries, data dictionaries, and standardized definitions; improved metadata and data discoverability; supported data quality assessments and remediation; and partnered with stakeholders to define critical data elements, ownership, policies, and standards.

At Autumn Lake Healthcare, I led data governance across a multistate skilled nursing organization with hundreds of millions in annual net patient revenue. I improved the quality, consistency, and compliance of employee, resident, billing, and operational data across HR, finance, admissions, clinical operations, and business office systems. I also created standardized documentation and reporting processes using Excel and Power BI, strengthened data access controls, and supported HIPAA and internal compliance requirements.

I am seeking a full time, fully remote Data Governance Manager, Data Governance Consultant, or Data Governance Specialist role where I can help organizations build trusted data, better processes, and stronger decision making.

Q & A

How do you define your role as a Data Governance Leader in Healthcare?

As a data governance and policy leader, I provide strategic and operational direction to ensure organizational data is accurate, secure, and aligned with regulatory, compliance, and business objectives. I lead the development and execution of governance frameworks, data policies, and standards that promote consistency, accountability, and high quality data across the enterprise. By overseeing key initiatives such as data stewardship, policy enforcement, data quality improvement, and compliance alignment, I ensure that data assets effectively support both operational performance and strategic decision making.

I work closely with executive leadership, business stakeholders, and technical teams to align data practices with organizational goals and regulatory requirements. Serving as a central point of coordination, I connect governance strategy with day-to-day operations by integrating people, processes, and technology. My focus is on building sustainable governance structures that enhance transparency, reduce risk, and enable the organization to leverage data as a trusted and valuable asset.

How do you measure success?

I measure success by the impact I have on people and outcomes, not just by activity or effort. I look at whether goals are clearly defined, achieved on time, and aligned with the broader mission and values of the organization. I also consider the quality of relationships built along the way—trust, collaboration, and communication are key indicators that I’m leading and contributing effectively. Finally, I view success as continuous growth: learning from feedback, improving systems and processes, and consistently delivering better results over time.

What drives you professionally?

I am driven professionally by creating meaningful, measurable impact for the people and organizations I serve. I care about solving complex problems, building trust, and delivering results that clearly move a mission forward. I’m motivated by continuous growth—refining my skills, learning new approaches, and embracing feedback so that I can operate at a higher level over time. I’m also driven by integrity and excellence, which means following through on commitments, doing what’s right even when it’s hard, and holding myself to a consistently high standard of performance.
